Building elements for first CCR Tiny House

Xella supports demonstrator construction on Reference Construction Site

The construction of the first CCR demonstrator on the Reference Construction Site at Campus West in Aachen will begin shortly. By joining forces in the consortium, we will build several Tiny Houses from different building materials as test units for research purposes. Our goal is to focus on the actual construction processes. As an example, we will run through the entire development chain from the analysis of the original manual execution to the development and testing of digital assistance systems and the evaluation of new automated processes.

The first components, which we are now having on site and will interact with, are provided by the company Xella. As a modern solution provider in the field of building materials, Xella has already been pursuing a consistent digitization strategy for several years. For example, Xella provided the digital model for the Tiny Houses as test units. The system wall elements provided for this purpose were manufactured in the factory to fit exactly for this project and delivered just in time. In this way, individual wall configurations can be efficiently assembled and prefabricated. Together, we would like to continue this digital chain onto the construction site as part of our Center collaboration and jointly identify and leverage digitalization and automation potentials for the construction industry.

In order to learn directly from the experts in construction practice, the Xella demonstration master Ingo Deerberg visited us today together with his colleagues Verena Leurs and Andreas Radischewski on the Reference Construction Site and trained us in the construction site processes with the system wall elements. We would like to thank all participants of the Xella Group for the material support and the contribution of valuable expertise from construction practice for the ongoing consortium projects.
